It is officially Fall, and while we finally get to don sweaters & boots, drink PSLs without shame, and enjoy leaves changing color (except for here in L.A.), it’s also the onset of cold & flu season, especially once Thanksgiving hits and airports become a transfer ground for viruses.

But it’s for this reason that Fall is a great transitional time to re-assess your supplements plan and to make sure your regimen includes immune boosters to ward off illnesses, or to at least shorten and minimize them if they onset.

Below is a list of my Fall & Winter must-haves to boost and build immunity. I can truthfully say that since implementing this regimen, I have only been sick one time in the last few years, and even then the longest I felt unwell was only 48 hours!

Here is my entire lineup from right to left in the photo above.

#1: LoveBug Probiotics COLDS SUCK Formula

I take the well-known and beloved HERE’s THE SKINNY year-round, but once September hits, I add COLDS SUCK to my regimen. Probiotics have been clinically proven to build and maintain healthy gut flora, a key component to a strong and healthy immune system. COLDS SUCK supplements are designed to strengthen your immune system by arming you with Lovebug’s proprietary blend of good bacteria and helpful vitamins and minerals

For the longest time, I was incredibly against a multivitamin of any sort. Living in America and not being malnourished, it didn’t make sense to me to spend money on a multivitamin with synthetic fillers that would probably do more harm than good. Then life got busier, my diet wasn’t always as nutrient-dense as I would prefer, and I discovered Ritual’s ESSENTIAL FOR WOMEN. This supplement contains only the essentials, with zero fillers. Just biovavailable nutrients that your body can actually use - including Vitamin D, Vitamin K, Vitamin B12, Boron, Iron, Vitamin E, Magnesium, Folate, and Omega-3 (essential for healthy brain function). Now when people ask me if they should take a mult, my answer is “Yes, but Ritual only.”

#3: Garden of Life RAW ZINC

This supplement contains both raw zinc and also vitamin C to assist absorption and immune boosting. Zinc is one of the top supplements you should take daily to prevent the onset of viral symptoms upon contraction. This is also the only one that is high-quality with nothing synthetic, and that also includes probiotics for digestive support, and enzymes for nutritional support. There is quite frankly just not a Zinc supplement on the market that compares, so this is the only one that I have ever used.

#4: Dragon Herbs FOUR KINGS Mushroom Blend

Mushrooms have the power to kill viruses, bacteria, and yeast, destroy cancer cells, and even assist with nerve regeneration. This proprietary blend contains four powerful tonic mushrooms (Agaricus, Reishi, Cordyceps and Maitake) in capsule form, making a daily dose as easy as swallowing a pill. I live near the Dragon Herb’s storefront and can attest to the high quality of their products and their knowledgeable staff. If you’re ever in L.A. (or if you live here), make sure to visit their brick & mortar location, and sit for a while to sip one of their amazing tonics!

You may have heard of the Root & Bones line of adaptogens from frequent appearances on my Instagram feed, and perhaps also this interview with founder Alyssa Melody, who is also a licensed acupuncturist in Humboldt County. While I use several of their adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms daily, their wildcrafted Chaga - the so called “King of Plants” - is the one I reach for most often. Chaga offers a broad spectrum of powerful, research-backed healing properties. With one of the highest known concentrations of antioxidants in any food, chaga is also rich in phytonutrients, zinc, b-vitamins, digestive enzymes, and minerals, protecting cells, reducing inflammation, improving cardiovascular and metabolic health, cleansing the liver, aiding in digestion, regulating the immune system, and promoting endurance and longevity. Chaga is heat-tolerant and cold-tolerant which means you can blend it with coffee, baked goods, soups, sauces, smoothies, literally anything. This makes daily ingestion for exposing immune boosting properties as simple as eating or drinking.
