ICED MINTED MATCHA LATTE TO BEAT THE HEAT

IMG_3676.JPG

Beat the heat all summer with this creamy, cooling iced matcha mint latte.
With just a hint of sweetness and with a bit of peppermint extract and a hint of vanilla, it's a refreshing and health-infused way to cool off, while enjoying the MANY benefits of consuming matcha, and the anti-inflammatory benefits of turmeric!

The green tea plants for matcha are shade-grown for about three weeks before harvest. During shaded growth, the plant produces extremely high levels of chlorophyll, packing the leaves full of nutrients and antioxidants, and of L-Theanine, an amino acid that boost focus and alertness when consumed.

In addition to providing trace minerals and vitamins (A, B-complex, C, E, and K), matcha tea is loaded with Antioxidants. Antioxidants are the body's clean crew! They are the nutrients and enzymes responsible for fighting against the negative effects of UV radiation, giving us younger-looking skin, and preventing a number of life-threatening maladies. They are also known to increase metabolism, control blood sugar and lower cholesterol.

Matcha is recognized as one of the highest graded food when it comes to antioxidant concentration.

Matcha is particularly full of catechins, the most potent and beneficial antioxidants. They are linked to fighting diseases such as cancer and heart disease. They also work at sterilizing your mouth and giving you a fresh breath. One specific catechin in matcha is specifically known to boost metabolism. It's called the epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Matcha also works as an amazing natural detox for the body and skin. Thanks to the shaded growth, matcha leaves are packed full of chlorophyll which is known to protect the skin from UV rays and rejuvenate skin cells. If you're starting to get a few wrinkles, consuming matcha (drinking it or applying it directly to your skin) can do miracles.

Chlorophyll can also help reduce acne. It helps detoxify your body of harmful toxins and repair the cells used to protect your skin.

Matcha also countains dietary fiber, a detoxifying agent that controls blood sugar and appetite, as well as eases digestion. Matcha contains EGCG, an antioxidant linked to weight loss. EGCG has been known to increase your metabolism and help you burn calories when combined with moderate-intensity exercise.

A study on matcha carried out in 2003 found EGCG increased the fat burning capabilities in bike riders by 17%. After consuming the equivalent of 1-2 cups of matcha, the EGCG helped them burn fat significantly faster when they got on the bike. In addition, matcha countains caffeine which is known to have a synergistic effect with the catechins in matcha to further increase metabolism.

So, ready to drink up?
